Our Story

La Catrina Tamales was founded in 2022 in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. It was started by Lucy Ceballos, a Boulder foodie originally from Mexico City with a lifelong passion for authentic Mesoamerican cuisine. Having grown up in Coyoacán—a vibrant cultural hub and UNESCO World Heritage Site where centuries of history, art, and tradition come alive—Lucy’s food is storytelling passed down through generations. Tamales, she says, are “living history wrapped in leaves”, a symbol of celebration, offering, and everyday comfort.

Having quickly outgrown a catering operation, La Catrina is now focused on wholesale production of tamales made locally with fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional recipes and techniques. As a retired engineer who owned a successful manufacturing business for three decades, Lucy has high standards that blend soul with perfection, resulting in tamales with exceptional flavor and consistency. We are able to supply large volumes on short notice.
